There have been a great deal of historical plays and musicals recently (cough, Hamilton, cough), but why not add another classic to the rotation? Opening this Tuesday with a six-day run at the San Jose CPA, 1776: The Musical tells the story of John Adams and his fellow Continental Congress members in their vote toward America’s independence. The play—put on by Broadway San Jose—asks if Adams knew how much he was willing to compromise in his pursuit of freedom. The musical originally premiered on Broadway in 1969, and ran for 1,217 performances; this year’s tour is the second revival.
