As a punk rock offshoot, Celtic punk remains somehow both novel and timeless, and the Real McKenzies are a prime example of this inscrutable quality. Founded in Vancouver in the early ’90s, the McKenzies have seen their share of success, including features in multiple commercials as well as stage time with Celtic punk rosetta stone act the Pogues. But make no mistake, the Real McKenzies bring their own distinct touch to the genre, an almost sea shanty-like sense of harmony and tension to their music that uplifts the spirit and fires up the heart.
