Tezkatlipoka Aztec Dance & Drum and Movimiento Cosmico are throwing a big birthday bash for San Jose’s own incarnation of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, whose visage is represented in sculptor Robert Graham’s monumental Plumed Serpent, first installed in San Jose’s Plaza de Cesar Chavez in 1994.
The educational event begins at 7pm on May 17 with a lecture on the meaning of Quetzalcoatl, which takes place at MACLA, 510 S. First St, San Jose.
The next day, festivities take place at Plaza de Cesar Chavez. The day of song and dance commences with In Xochilt In Cuicatl (In Flower In Song), a musical program, from 9 to 11am. Following is Mitotiliztli, with traditional dances from noon to 5pm.
