Picasso once said, “I don’t say everything, but I paint everything.” A new project aims to give local incarcerated individuals the same avenues of self-expression Picasso had. “Open the Door! Art From Within” showcases art made by inmates in Santa Clara County jails. Each piece in the exhibit tells the story of a community effort among a diverse cross-section of inmates. “With this exhibit, they’re seen, because right now the inmates are invisible,” says Elaine Bondonno, the creative director behind this initiative. “Open the Door!” emphasizes themes of promise, hope and empathy and shines a light on a lesser understood local population.Open the Door
