BACK IN my younger days, I wanted to be a pro skater. Believe it or not, there was a time when I would skate for at least three hours a day. My friends and I would pool our money together to buy the latest skate videos. One of the best things about those videos was the music; sometimes I’d hear a band I’ve never heard before and go out and buy it. It was usually some punk or metal band. Hightower reminds me of one of those bands I heard on one of the videos. But Hightower puts a little more thrash in their sound, circa 1987. Think Suicidal Tendencies’ Join the Army mixed with prog. In the end, I suffered a torn ligament in my knee, but at least I still have the music, man. They can’t take that away from me. Opening will be Clay Wheels and Factory Minds, and the show will be recorded for a Hightower/Clay Wheels split.
HIGHTOWER plays Thursday (March 25) at 9pm at the VooDoo Lounge, 14 S. Second St., San Jose. Tickets are $7. (408.286.8636)
