LARRIVEE-BRANDISHING “viper of rock” Wayne “The Train” Hancock comes bearing a huge repertoire of operator’s specials, proto-rock, juke joint, Bakersfield blues, hillbilly-boogie and Texas swing. He is endorsed by Hank Williams III, who admits there’s more of Granddad’s spirit in Hancock than there is in either him or his dad Hank Jr. A self-described murder weapon pressed against the soft white underbelly of Nashville, Hancock has a good memory of what a rich blend country used to be: from Tin Pan Alley to jacked-up Model-T-engine-powered amps braying some staticky electric guitar and tomcat-howl vocals. Truly the proper music for what “the rich folks call recession, but the poor folks call depression.”
