American Fascism

In the mid-1930s, the threat to Western democracies was the expansion of fascism, already on display in Germany and Italy. Fearing the same fate for Spain, volunteers from more than 50 countries came to fight. Communism never was the opposite of the fascism of Mussolini’s and Hitler’s Brown Shirts. Both possessed the same totalitarian nature. There was only one distinct difference between the two: Communism was internationalist, while fascism was ultranationalist.

American fascism has proved it is not one bit interested in the democratic process! The rich of the world, who back the forceful fearful fascist governments to protect them, the capitalists who claim to be proponents and the supporters of democracy, are hypocrites. The fascist but so-called democratic governments will be no more democratic than the solidly communist countries when faced with total socialism.

Why Print It?

After years and years of reading publications of all types followed by a fairly consistent scratching of my head, I have to wonder why editors, and not just Metro‘s editors, print letters that (1) are full of pie-in-the-sky answers to everything, (2) are written in a manner intentionally intended to mislead the reader, (3) are full of rants and (4) contain veiled and/or clear allegations of conspiracies that only because we’re lucky the letter writer has discovered and exposed.

In the Nov. 17 issue, you have one writer alleging that “the federal government’s carefully timed announcement” kept Prop. 19 from passing without a shred of evidence, another states that it’s “clear” someone is “being looked at by the DA’s office” without evidence or a source, and finally another that purposely misleads the reader by making an argument with a single statistic regarding military spending that’s both wrong and missing crucial information in order to get to the real figure, which was purposely left out by the writer in an effort to shock the readers.

I’m all for hearing what other people have to say about this and that, and from time to time a jewel emerges from the morass, but I just can’t understand why editors of otherwise respectful publications would just put garbage out there with no regard to truth or clarity. You (hopefully) wouldn’t do this with reporting; it shouldn’t be allowed with these “unsolicited submissions” either.
