“We came here to do one of two things,” Rafael Reyes, one half of the self-described “cholo goth” duo Prayers, declared, proudly bearing a tattoo-covered torso and neck through the opening of his unzipped leather jacket, Saturday night at Back Bar SoFA: “fuck or fight.”
Then Reyes softened his tone, noting the love he was feeling from the crowd, and saying that violence, at least, would not be on the menu that night. The San Diego-based minimal electronic outfit tore through a powerful set of dark and brooding songs about growing up in gangs and on the wrong side of the tracks.
