The Golden State Warriors took to the streets of Oakland this morning to celebrate the franchise’s first NBA Championship in 40 years. Fans from all over the Bay Area flooded downtown Oakland to cheer the team. Warriors fans both young and old sported blue and gold hats, jerseys and T-shirts, waved flags and held up homemade signs in a jubilant display of team spirit.
The parade began at the intersection of Broadway and 11th Street, marched up to W. Grand Avenue, where it took a right, and continued down Harrison and Lakeside Drive, along the shore of Lake Merritt. In addition to the 2015 championship team, the parade also featured famous Warriors of past generations, including Rick Barry—who helped lead the franchise to its last NBA title in 1975 against the Washington Bullets.
