Iconic storytellers Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner wrote The Fabelmans, which was nominated for Best Picture at the last Oscars. A semi-autobiographical film, it follows an Arizona boy’s love of cinema as he grows up post-World War II and copes with learning a terrible family secret. Some of Spielberg’s own youth was spent in the Los Gatos area, an experience which also informs the film. Upon its 2022 release, ABC critic Peter Travers wrote, “Sentimental? Sure. Sappy? Never. No movie this year cuts a clearer path to the heart and the power of imagination.” This free screening comes courtesy of Redwood City’s Movies on the Square.
