Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Sami Stevens visits the SOFA district to share her new album Morning. Raised in rural Maine, the seasoned jazz vocalist and keyboardist contemplates an evergreen topic on her full-length solo project: the landscape of death. Songs like “Margaret” and “Tonight,” however, paint loving portraits of flawed women in complicated emotional terrain. With the lush, full-bodied voice of Sarah Vaughan and the lyrical compassion of Joni Mitchell, Stevens’ music questions, probing the gray space of life on Earth and its eventual undoing. Though it sounds heavy, it’s also beautiful. Show starts at 6:00pm, with Mama Kin’s weekly jazz jam at 9:00pm.
