“I think everything has humor; you will always find humor…Our struggles become our comedy,” says the San Francisco Bay Area comedian Rex Navarrete. Though the mainstream hasn’t caught on to him yet, the Filipino comic has long been an underground favorite, possessed with a classic wit, which he’s shown off alongside acclaimed headliners like George Lopez, DL Hughley and Paul Mooney. The comic’s routine involves doing character bits highlighting scrappy underdogs with heart, like his ESL teacher Mrs. Scott as well as characters like “Uncle Boy” and Maritess the domestic worker.
