Kira Hooks’ music reflects her upbringing around the world, from The Netherlands, to Nigeria, to Scotland, to China. Now based in the Bay Area, the Filipina-American singer-songwriter describes her style as a mix of soul, folk and jazz infused with “a sense of romantic idealism.” She has kept busy since graduating from college in LA, living in Nashville and New York City before relocating to Redwood City. Her latest album, 2020’s Love AtLas(T), features uplifting melodies and expertly crafted harmonies. In the track “In My Dreams,” calling to mind Judy Garland, she croons, “The clouds are smiling / Birds are singing songs for me.”
