This Thursday, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Hua Tsu reads from his 2023 memoir Stay True. The coming-of-age story traces Tsu’s youth as the son of Taiwanese immigrants in San Jose (distinguishing himself through tasteful mixes for group car rides along with his friends in the ‘90s) and is full of flashing road trip insights: “Sammi flicked her lighter all the time, until one afternoon when the glove compartment caught on fire…Paraag always ejected my tapes and insisted on listening to the radio.” Stay True is also a meditation on grief, grappling with the murder of Tsu’s closest friends. Ocean Vuong describes Tsu’s book as “writing at its most open, meticulous, forgiving and tender.”
