The story of Donny McCaslin is a classic of a local boy making good and finding fame. Starting his music career at age 12 in his father’s band, McCaslin went on to play at the Monterey Jazz Festival numerous times in high school and scored a full scholarship to the legendary Berklee College of Music. Then David Bowie saw McCaslin perform in the Maria Schneider Orchestra and asked him and his jazz quartet to perform on Bowie’s fantastic final album, Blackstar. McCaslin returns to the area on the release of his new album, I Want More, which combines alt-rock sonics with jazz sensibilities.
