When it comes to Afrobeat, nobody was or is more significant than Fela Kuti. But the name on the marquee was only as good as the band backing them, and when it came to musicians, Kuti knew the best. One of those was Soji Odukogbe, who played guitar for Kuti for five years and on several albums. He decided to take his chances in America and is currently ensconced in the heart of the Bay Area with his Afrobeat band. Their impossibly infectious beats compel even the most self-conscious dancers to get on the floor and shake what their momma gave them. Comfortable shoes are essential for a vibrant night of music.
