Perhaps since birth, music writing has been in the cards for musician and vocalist Kim Nalley. Born into a musical family, Nalley took piano lessons from her grandmother before receiving a formal music education at the ACES Educational Center for the Arts in Connecticut. Later, she moved to the Bay Area, where Michael Tilson Thomas hired her to sing a program of George Gershwin tunes for the SF Symphony. Immersed in all things jazz, Nalley owned and operated Jazz at Pearl’s, a North Beach nightclub in the mid-aughts. Working with an impressive three-and-a-half vocal octave range, Nalley explores jazz roots with a masterly hold on the music.
