Senri Oe and his solo piano performance was one of last year’s biggest and most packed Art Boutiki events. Once upon a time in the ’80s, a famous J-Pop artist named Senri Oe produced a series of juicy synth-pop bangers that crowds of pub-goers triumphantly sang while drunk. Then, the plucky hero pulled a one-eighty (or perhaps a three-sixty?) and returned to his classically trained, jazz-loving roots by refocusing on piano. Now, he produces bangers on the keys, creating gorgeous, dynamic and moody compositions that are moving to the point of tears. Clearly, Senri Oe is a musical genius capable of evolving in a fascinatingly crisp way.
