Washington DC-based pianist Vienna Teng is a Bay Area native raised in Saratoga, returning home to kick off her end-of-the-year tour dates. Born to Taiwanese immigrant parents, Teng began playing classical piano at age five but says she had a “long-distance relationship with music” while immersing herself in computer sciences. After working for Cisco Systems, she returned to her love for music in 2002 and released her first album, Waking Hour, on Virt Records. Her fifth album, The Fourth Messenger, is a soundtrack (music by Teng with lyrics by Tanya Shaffer) to her musical of the same name that reimagines a Buddha legend centered around whether enlightenment and human flaws can coexist.
