Described as a group that bridges the gap between the Gun Club and the Rolling Stones, LA’s the Hangmen (not to be confused with Washington DC’s legendary ’60s group of the same name) released their self-titled debut in 1989. Their next album didn’t surface until 2000, but its title laid the band’s influences bare: Metallic I.O.U. paid stylistic tribute to heroes Iggy and the Stooges with tunes like “Broke, Drunk & Stoned” and “Loners, Junkies & Liquor Stores,” and their 2020 singles “Thunderhead” and “She Walks” demonstrates that the band’s creative well has yet to run dry.
