William Shakespeare meets Too Hot To Handle as A Midsummer Night’s Dream is updated and centered around Cupid’s Isle, a fictional reality dating show. The combination makes a lot of sense. Shakespeare’s plays were the popular and ribald entertainment of his day, and given the source material’s politics and personality clashes in multiple subplots orbiting the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta in the coastal paradise that is Athens, the bard’s original comedy kind of begs for this clever and fitting island reality show treatment, maintaining a dose of faerie magic and mischief to keep things interesting. The show runs through April 27.
