The daughter of a classical Indian vocalist, singer Aarya Ambekar began her vocal training at age five and was soon after a finalist in a popular Indian music competition by singing various classical and folk songs, many in the Marathi language. She then established a career as a playback singer, voicing songs lip-synched by actors in Indian films; to date, her voice has been featured in nearly 30 movies. Under her own name, Ambekar has released more than a dozen albums in a variety of styles. Ambekar’s performance is part of the Sāns Music Festival.
