Egyptian American stand-up comedian Ahmed Ahmed tackles Islamophobia head-on, incorporating his Muslim identity brilliantly into his sets. Generally, he gets tons of laughs for poking fun at stereotypes of Arabs. Still, at one strange Florida show in 2019, the comedian lived through a surreal nightmare when an audience member called the police on him for organizing a terrorist plot. The joke that prompted this? Ahmed asked people in the room to clap if they were from the Middle East and said, “All right. We got a handful of us in here, nice. But, hey, it only takes one of us … to tell a joke.”
