The history of the American railroad involves the tireless and underappreciated work of people from multiple cultural groups: Chinese, Irish, African-American, Native American, etc. Silkroad Ensemble (led by Artistic director Rhiannon Giddens) aims to create a sonic portrayal of the cultural history of the transcontinental railroad. Some of the artists involved include Pura Fé Crescioni (lap steel guitar, voice), Sandeep Das (tablas), Karen Ouzounian (cello), Francesco Turrisi (frame drums, accordion), Michi Wiancko (violin), Yazhi Guo (suona, Chinese percussion) and many others. The evening will be a unique exploration of American history.
