Shostakovich’s Fourth Symphony in Redwood City
Dmitri Shostakovich’s Gustav Mahler-influenced Fourth Symphony was composed in 1936 amid Stalin’s bloody reign. The Russian dictator was not a fan, resulting in the symphony not making its premier until 25 years later, after being lost during World War II and then found again.
