.Avenida de Altares in San Jose

Celebrate life with leyendas de cumbia, La Misa Negra. The 7-piece band brings their Afro-Colombian rhythms, accordion riffs and inflections of hip-hop, jazz and rock to the School of Arts and Culture’s 6th annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration, Avenida de Altares (Avenue of the Altars). A San José tradition, this beloved event will feature an expansive collaborative art exhibit with non-profit Works/San José, a curated art walk, artisanal marketplace, and a special Aztec ceremonia by San José natives, Calpulli Tonalehqueh. Set to a backdrop of visually stunning altars with vibrant Cempasúchiles and skull motifs, La Misa Negra’s jubilant soundtrack will lead difuntos from their burial place and back to their loved ones.
