While later audiences criticized the emergence of Baroque music as excessively dramatic, maudlin and insincerely emotional, the genre helped establish a Western musical tradition. Modern pop songs are written in a single key with full instrumentation because of innovations made during the Baroque musical period. For those inclined to such harmonic leanings, the Palo Alto Philharmonic will be putting on a concert with some of the best and brightest Baroque offerings by Georg Philipp Telemann, Claudio Monteverdi and arguably the greatest Baroque composer, Johann Sebastian Bach.
