The trajectory of the Bay Area rap scene has evolved, reinvented itself and refined its direction in the slowly dissipating wake of the hyphy movement over a decade ago. The beats have retained their unique, almost playful bounce, but the lyrical content has slowly but steadily progressed from ostensibly dance anthems to more introspective, poetic heights. Bay Area rap talents Hitta Slim, Cousin Fik and Ally Cocaine all embody this trajectory, each artist carving out an impressive space for themselves in a scene crowded with skilled practitioners. All three perform in a SJ Major Moves presented show this Friday at the Britannia Arms Cupertino.
