Few knew what to expect when Robert Fripp reactivated the pioneering progressive rock band King Crimson in the ’80s. Between 1969 and 1975, the group went through a myriad of lineups and styles. But ’80s King Crimson fused complex polyrhythms to proto-industrial textures, creating a groundbreaking sound all its own. The lineup made three remarkable albums before inevitably fracturing, but its influence endured. Forty years later, two of its members (guitarist Adrian Belew and Stick player Tony Levin) have joined guitar wizard Steve Vai and Tool drummer Danny Carey for BEAT, celebrating that remarkable era of King Crimson music.
