.‘Blithe Spirit’ Opens at City Lights

It takes a true gem to succeed on stage for over eight decades, and Blithe Spirit is a rare gem indeed. Written by Noel Coward and premiered in London’s West End in 1941, the play follows socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites a clairvoyant to conduct a seance at his home as a cure for writer’s block. Chaos, as they say, ensues. San Jose audiences will find plenty to laugh at in this otherworldly tale that sits oddly close to home. Let’s just say some things should remain dead and buried—but laughter won’t be one of them.
