Mo Drawin'
Mo Willems at Schulz
By Emily Hunt
In 2003, Sesame Street writer Mo Willems went rogue by beginning to write award-winning, hilariously titled children's books. Willems' first effort was the New York Times bestselling Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, which inspired an original musical production and earned a Caldecott Honor. As a triple-threat in writing, illustrating and animating, Willems was swiftly lauded by the New York Times Book Review, who called him "the biggest talent to emerge thus far in the '00s."
This weekend, fans can come for a book-singing and a personal reading of two of Willems' stories, "Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed" and "I Broke My Trunk!" The event commences at noon, with animated films of Willems' early books. At 1pm, Willems reads, and afterward, children—or adults, we won't judge—can eat free ice cream while Willems signs copies of his latest installment in the Elephant & Piggie easy-reader series, titled, appropriately, Should I Share My Ice Cream?
Catch Mo Willems on Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Charles M. Schulz Museum. 2301 Hardies Lane, Santa Rosa. Noon. Free with museum admission. 707.579.4452.
