North Bay Museums gear up for Fall

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art presents "Sonido Pirata: What You Need You Have to Borrow," running Sept. 17– Jan. 1. The artists in this exhibition channel economic and cultural resistance through appropriated sounds and images, using video, music, performance, sculpture and installation. . . . The Bolinas Museum's annual fundraising exhibition ends with a Sept. 17 art auction. From Oct. 1–Nov. 13, the Main Gallery explores the influence of the Spanish, "Californios Costeras: La Vida Espanola del Oeste Marin 1776-1876.". . . Manuel Neri, sculptor, painter, printmaker and member of the Bay Area figurative movement, will be honored in "Legends of the Bay Area: Manuel Neri," running Oct. 1–Nov. 13 at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (above). . . . The Sonoma County Museum celebrates the significance of bikes of all stripes in Northern California with "Customized: The Art and History of the Bicycle," a multimedia exhibit running Sept. 24–Feb. 5. The museum's annual Day of the Dead installation runs Oct. 4–Nov. 4, with a central altar showcasing the lives and artistry of Mexican muralists like Diego Rivera and more. . . . "Discrepancy: Living Between War and Peace," offers visual surveys about daily life and its connection to 9-11 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through Oct. 30 at the Napa Valley Museum.
