The brainchild of famed South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma, Broken Chord uses a stunning fusion of music, dance, visuals and theater to tell living, breathing stories. The group’s latest display recounts the tour of a South African-based chorus group through late 19th century North America and England, and how said tour was marred by racism and the white gaze. Featuring four soloists and an acapella chorus, Broken Chord uses the heart and breath of collaborative art to tell a political story, one that is jarring, yet a deeply moving human experience.
