In this fable musical, a beautiful and clever little fox named Keen Ears is captured by the Forester while she is young. Though she manages to escape, the contrasting paths of her life and the Forester’s tell a larger story about possession and obsession. This opera production by Czech composer Leoš Janáček is translated by Donald Pippin, founder and artistic director of Pocket Opera, the Bay Area chamber opera company of over 40 years. Soprano Amy Foote stars as the Vixen, with baritone Spencer Dodd as the Forester. Conductor Jonathan Khuner leads the Pocket Philharmonic for this splendid two-and-a-half-hour experience.
