Formed in the early ’80s in a studio behind a Fullerton pawnshop, DI embodies the energetic angst of classic SoCal punk rock. The band features vocalist Casey Royer, formerly of the Adolescents and Social Distortion. DI’s oeuvre is foundational for any hardcore punk fan, especially their cult-favorite second album, 1986’s Horse Bites Dog Cries. With four decades on the scene and counting, Royer continues to slice through the noise of everyday life with sharp social awareness and humor. What’s more, he’s optimistic about the future. In May 2023, he told Blast TV, “Punk rock is coming back in a big way.” (AM)
