Christmas music contains countless subgenres: Motown Christmas, Tchaikovsky Christmas, Indie Rock Christmas, and, nearing the top, Jazz Christmas. The Minnesota-based quintet Davina and the Vagabonds brings their charming, sultry and smooth seasonal cheer to Stanford this weekend with their show, A Vagabond Holiday. Classics will be on tap—the band promises Elvis, Ella Fitzgerald and Chuck Berry Christmas songs—but audience members may walk away with more than “Jingle Bells” in their heads. Davina has won praise from Rolling Stone for the “Americana mishmash” of her original songwriting, which is fully displayed on the 2019 album Sugar Drops.

We saw Davina and her Vagabonds last week at the Bach Dynamite Society. She and her band absolutely killed it. They played a wide variety of styles and Jazz songs with some blues and originals thrown in. Her chit chat is hilarious, her voice amazing, think singers like Janis, Pink, Aretha all in one package! Her husband heads up her very tight band, along with Davina’s terrific piano work. Never a dull moment in this show.
Enough said- Good Talk! Get out there and see for yourself
