Hearing Dre Scot live is like being sonically caressed by an ocean of velvety sound waves. The particular timbre of Scot’s voice is similar to the iridescent, smooth and supple texture of alpaca pelage. Subtly masterful soul/funk bass and guitar add context to the lyrics, and it all gets elevated by triple harmony backups, creating melodies that emulate the new growth of spring—in other words, baby-making music. It’s no wonder that Dre Scot has been a finalist on American Idol twice. The show is a mix of old-school cool and modern soul vibes.
