.Fairest of the Fair in San Jose

Showcased by the San Jose Metropolitan Band only days before the most romantic day of the year, Fairest of the Fair celebrates classic band compositions spanning from the Gilded Age to the contemporary era. An homage to the romantic essence of Valentine’s Day, the performance derives its name from the renowned John Philip Sousa’s march and promises to be a heart-warming evening at the Hammer Theatre. The repertoire is thoughtfully curated and enriched with diverse musical works featuring compositions from Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in Eb for Military Band,” Percy Grainger’s whimsical “Children’s March” and Florence Price’s soul-stirring “Adoration.” (MY)
