Part artist’s diary, part natural history, Todd McGrain’s The Lost Bird Project documents efforts to establish a series of public memorials for North American birds driven to extinction in contemporary times. Functioning as a moving, poignant and sometimes funny ode to now-extinct birds like the Labrador duck, passenger pigeon, and Carolina parakeet, The Lost Bird Project invokes the memories of these creatures through site-specific sculptures. After residency at Stanford, The Lost Bird Project is taking flight. Before it leaves, Stanford invites people to see a Lost Birds documentary and walk through the sculptures.
