Stanford brings an evening of spoken word to the Studio, an “underground cabaret, club and theater” located at Bing Concert Hall. Danez Smith’s 2020 collection Homie, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, is a paean to friendship as a means of queer and Black survival in America. They are joined by Fatimah Asghar, author of the poetry collection If They Come For Us and debut novel When We Were Sisters as well as co-creator of the web series Brown Girls. Curated by poet Hieu Minh Nguyen, members of the Stanford Spoken Word Collective open the evening’s performances.
