The Music of the Spheres program at the Lick is as close as most will get to both the wonders of the night sky and Nerdvana (paradise for nerds). At this week’s event, listeners are treated to the musical group Golden Bough. Nerds will instantly recognize that the band name is also the name of a classic mythology book by one Sir James George Frazer. The band makes gorgeous music representing the history and culture of Celtic music with a modern twist. The lecture topic by Dr. Jorge Moreno of Pomona College contemplates galaxies lacking dark matter—a puzzle he solved recently. He also coined the term “astromimicry,” meaning how the universe can inspire more inclusive communities.
