Acclaimed jazz musician esperanza spalding reaches more awe-inspiring heights this month with her new live show. An erudite student of jazz composition and performance, the four-time Grammy-winner has been studying dance elements to collaborate with choreographer Antonio Brown in the creation of a concert that combines movement and music from her past few albums. spalding is well-known for her unique hybrid of virtuosic bass-playing with sprightly vocals and soulful lyrics, but dance is a new experiment for this spellbinding artist.

Addie Mahmassani is a poet based in Santa Cruz. She holds a PhD in American Studies from Rutgers University-Newark and is currently an MFA student in creative writing at San Jose State University. There, she is a Teaching Associate as well as the lead poetry editor of Reed Magazine, California's oldest literary journal. She also surfs, sings and loves a part-sheepdog named Lou.
