What’s the best thing about living in San Jose?
It’s in the middle of one of the greatest places in the world. The Bay Area is home to so many different geographic and social climates that are within our reach. San Jose is kind of like living in the apartment next to the party. You can show up and leave any time without having to deal with the vomit and urine the next day… and be a hockey fan.
Where’s the best place in San Jose to go relax for a bit?
Obviously, one of the many massage parlors or vapor lounges! I prefer relaxing away from the population up in the hills or along the coast, but if I need to mellow out among the commoners I prefer the back patio at Jack’s bar, or O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub. Perhaps, throwing on a suit and tie and kicking back in the lobby of the Fairmont pretending to be a venture capitalist with a briefcase full of pocket shots.
Where’s the place to see a show in San Jose?
Well, they are disappearing faster than I can mention them. I suppose at the moment I have to give it up to Johnny V’s for being the home of our weekly romp: Terrible Tuesdays. It gets real intimate in there and anything goes…usually don’t leave without some remnants of booze and sweat.
What’s San Jose’s best kept secret?
I’m not entirely sure. Maybe the maniacal plans by redevelopment to undermine and irradiate all nightlife and forcibly inserting mediocre high-end businesses that are completely intangible with the demographics of residents in a disconnected attempt by city council member to cleanse the city’s wildly misunderstood social ills.
Or… 10th largest city in the US, 305 days of sunshine a year and plenty of talent. Where is everybody?
Trashkannon are playing at Johnny V’s on Tuesday May 1st (as part of the Terrible Tuesday series). The show starts at 9pm and $5 at the door.
