The first thing that stands out about Haley Heynderickx is her guitar playing; she is dreamy, pick-y, and flowing. The second is her irreverent lyrics calling forth nostalgic influences from the ’60s to the ’90s. The third is her voice—a voice of this era, for sure, but also containing a haunting complexity and marrow that isn’t always present among the newest crop of singer-songwriters. Using horns as backing instruments in the recorded music is nice, too; it lends a sort of gravitas. After releasing an album in 2018 and touring extensively, Haley Heynderickx is back at the Guild before her next soon-to-be-out album.
