The sensibilities of Martin McDonagh, author of the darkly comedic film The Banshees of Inisherin, are perfectly suited for the literal gallows humor of Hangmen, his 2015 play set in 1965—the year the UK abolished the death penalty. Bay Area actor Will Springhorn Jr. takes the role of Harry Wade, the UK’s second-best hangman, in San Jose Stage Company’s production. Directed by James Reese, Hangmen previews April 3 and opens April 6, with shows scheduled through April 28.
