The reality of California farmworkers affected by wildfires is presented thoughtfully through Hidden Strawberries, a new play written by Ali Namayandeh and drawn from farmworker interviews and scientific research. The toxicity of wildfire smoke and its disproportionate impact on their lives and health are told through Valentina’s journey. She’s searching for her brother Rodrigo, who disappeared while trying to cross the border into the United States. Traditional Mexican dances woven throughout the play draw the audience further into a reality threatened by policies that could be changed.
