Since releasing his record Underground Soul! as the bandleader in 1966, tenor saxophonist Houston Person has become the flag-bearer for unique twists to the soul jazz genre. Thanks to his diverse but conscientious repertoire, Person remains a staple of jazz clubs nationwide. Joining him and his quartet is Gregory Hutchinson, a drummer who has become known for his collaborations with big names like Wynton Marsalis and Common, earning a reputation as a “drummer’s drummer” due to his measured rhythmic expressions and adept sense of unconventional time signatures.
