It’s time to break out the weird sugar spoons and collected volumes of Rimbaud, because Absinthe Father is coming to town. The dreamy Oakland pop-shoegazers have been consistently dropping quality releases since around 2017, but sound particularly assured on last year’s moving forward. Frontwoman and founder Haley Butters channels elements of Jenny Lewis and Soccer Mommy (even, sometimes, their twang, as on “marie,”) for a big indie rock sound that hasn’t lost touch with its bedroom pop roots. Moody Virginia rockers Keep hold it down as main support and Bay DIY dreamers Kilroi open.
