In an unexpected twist for the sisters, who had just moved to New York before recording Thirteen Tales, it was the British label Lizard King that was responsible for pushing their work into the spotlight.
“They were the first label to really get behind it,” says Catherine.
So the Pierces actually moved to London for a year, building a sizeable British fanbase that has pushed the single “You’ll Be Mine,” from their latest album You & I, onto the charts there. The album has gone gold in the UK.
The Pierces are now back in this country. You & I was co-produced by Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, and the sisters are now supporting Coldplay on several dates of their current tour, including the two nights at HP Pavilion.
“We’re happy to be home,” says Catherine.
The Pierces open for Coldplay Friday and Saturday, April 27 & 28, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, 7pm; $28-$107.
