It’s common these days to say artists or groups defy a genre or are hard to categorize. But for Invoke, it truly is a task as this quartet jumps from Western and Eastern classical to jazz, bluegrass, ragtime, Appalachian fiddle tunes and, well, everything else. Even Strings Magazine said Invoke “cannot be simply contained by any one label.” Armed with a cello, violins, mandolin and banjo, the string quartet takes the listener on a geographic, cultural and historical journey, showing the missing links that tie together many different musical traditions.
